“The Rains Continue…”

“The Rains Continue…”

This year the weather in East Africa has mirrored that of the Pacific Northwest.  Flooding and road slides have taken out bridges and roads.  Flooding continues to keep Domenic and Charles from getting to the village Bible Schools.

The rain has been a great thing for the garden at Ol’Gulului, which supplements the food for the girls in the Technical School.  On the downside, when there are no sunbreaks, the solar batteries don’t recharge.  Even the elephants don’t like the rain and have temporarily moved to higher ground.

Esther is loving school. It is good that she can come back to Namonga and be with Domenic on the weekends.

A paint job, on the outside of the toilet/shower block, is all that remains to be completed on that building.  A ramp has been installed, so we are handicap compliant.  One was also added to the dorm.  The next requirement of the government is a workroom for the girls.  Then, staff housing and offices will round out their list of “must-have” buildings. They want all these buildings to be separate.  We don’t understand their reasoning, but eventually we will get things done to satisfy them.

Prayer is needed for Gerod, Domenic’s son, who runs the schools in M’Takooja.  He had not been feeling well and finally went to a doctor in Boma N”Gombea, it is a man thing, they sent him to Nairobi where they confirmed he has diabetes.  He is slowly getting better.

On a personal note, Kathy will have two more surgeries this month.  The doctors had been waiting for her knee to heal before they proceeded. The knee had complications from medication.  The first surgery is on Monday, April 13th, in Walla Walla.  Her doctor says she is to do nothing but can ride to Spokane on the fourteenth day and will have surgery on April 27th.  They estimate she will be in recovery mode for all of May. In the middle of all of this, Harry and Pam will fly to California for the funeral of his sister.

It is now only three and a half months until we return to Africa.  We are so excited to finally see the day approaching.

Serving a God who is always more than enough!

Harry & Kathy

Every time I ask how Esther is doing in school, Domenic replies, “She is loving it so much!”
The girls love passion fruit
The squash are huge
Not everyone knows that banannas grow “upside down”.  Each tree only produces one stalk and them it is cut down and another one comes up to replace it
The toilet/shower block is being used but needs a coat of paint to finish it
