January 2010 three young women showed up at our school. They had walked from a village very far away to come and attend our school. The next class of students would not begin their studies until September and we had no place for them to live. They were insistent that they would not leave until they had finished our school. The only place Dominic had for them to live was the storage shed. This was the beginning of our rescue program. We had no idea what God was birthing.
Here is the story of one of those women, told by Domenic:
“Mary got born again in her village church. When she returned home she shared her new found faith with her husband. He was so angry about her new found faith that he started torturing her and their two children.
When Mary’s daughter was 8 years of age, an old man started bringing cows and goats to Mary’s husband as a bride price in preparations of the little girls marriage. As the daughter turned 10 years of age the old man was ready to claim her for another wife. As the wedding preparations were going on, Mary told her husband that her daughter was not going to get married to an old man. He became so angry and beat the wife and the daughter. For several days they slept outside without food in cold and rain. After many days of suffering the pastor of her village church rescued Mary and her children, the children were taken into a boarding school and Mary was brought into our Bible school. She was traumatized and suffering from depression, her ears were blocked by being slapped for many days to the extent that she had lost her hearing . She was just a Maasai village woman without any education, she couldn’t read or write.
At first this looked like a rescue plan but God had a better plan for Mary. She entered our Bible School where she put on the full armor of God, was filled with the full of power of the Holy Spirit. She had also learned to read and write. After her graduation she returned her village church. The pastor could not put her in a back to seat and warm the benches because she had become so powerful in the Word and full of the power of the Holy Spirit.
By God’s leadings she then went into a different village, where she started a Bible Study. This small group was the birth place of a church. Today Mary’s church has grown, they have built a large building with many members. She even owns a car.
Because she lived far from the school and was so busy with her church she had not returned to visit and thank Domenic and the school for helping her to know herself and to realize herself worth.
This year Mary’s church sent a young man to the Bible School. Mary also brought a girl that she had rescued from early marriage. She was to have been married as the 7th wife of a 76 years old man, H’Osianah is 18 years old. She has been fearful to return home because of everything she had experiences, so she has remained on our compound continually.
Please pray for the seven young girls we have rescued so far this year for I don’t know what I shall do after graduation because after we release them to go home there is a very great risk of losing them to the old men who want to marry them as their 8th or 10th wives. Three of our girls from the oldest class in the Primary School did not return to school in January because they had been given as wives and several more are in need of being rescued. These are little girls.”
In August 2015 we were finally able to open a Rescue Center for these girls. We have room for twelve. We care for them, are teaching them to read and write and life skills to keep them from prostitution when they leave us. The are knitting hats which make the program self sustaining and are learning to sew school uniforms.
When the Multi-Purpose building is completed we will be able to expand this program by moving their work room to the new building, making room to house twelve more girls.
